Recognition Before the Event: Neo and the Bullet
In the 1999 film The Matrix, Neo discovers he can perceive a bullet's trajectory before it has traveled it. The filmmakers invented "bullet time" — extreme slow motion — because recognition at this speed has no adequate representation in normal cinema. Bullet time is the cinematic still point.
Neo's development: first he sees the bullet. Then he stops it. The first is PING™. The second is PING™ at ™ > T — pattern recognition achieving enough momentum to redirect the field.

5 Findings from Egyptian Fruit Bats
The bat's hippocampus runs ahead of its body. The decoded position swept forward cyclically with every wing-beat. The bat's cognitive map was always projecting into the near future. Recognition precedes arrival.
Replay occurs at remote locations. During rest, hippocampal neurons replayed flight trajectories from spatially distant locations. The bat resting on one wall replays routes from the other side. PING™ operates from anywhere in the field.
Replay duration is constant. Whether a 2.7m or 20m route, replay takes approximately the same time (~350ms). The circuit has a fixed duration. What changes is information density.
Echolocation suppresses the internal forward sweep. Emission and reception alternate. The bat cannot fully emit and receive simultaneously. The still between the wing-beats is where reception lives.
The wing-beat is the clock. No theta oscillations during flight. The body's own rhythm organizes hippocampal sequences. The behavior organizes the knowing.

What Is Active Inference?
Karl Friston's framework (UCL): all living systems survive by minimizing surprise. The brain generates predictions; when they match reality, the system continues; when they diverge, the brain either updates its model (learning) or acts to bring reality closer to prediction (behavior).
PING™ is the moment a pattern arrives with enough Thought Momentum that the model simultaneously updates and recognizes its own transformation. The noticing — preceding explanation — is the event PING™ names.
